I just finished this wonderfully fun and easy knit in a bulky yarn by Noro. It is knit in Noro's Kogarashi yarn which is a tweedy and striped colorful yarn. It is a silk wool blend which is soft and light when worn. This pattern is Out of the Box Jacket by Imagine Knits. If you are looking for something simple, fun and fast to do, this should be your next project.

We have been busy knitting over the past few months. Tonie finished Carol Lapin's Panel Jacket in a gold tone from Dream in Color Yarns. I quickly finished a vest in Rowan's Colourscape Chunky yarn. The class we had in the Knit One Below vest was great and everyone's vest was beautiful.

I have been busy at the store knitting up some new samples. We are having a class in the Swirl scarf coming up in November. The scarf is easy and fun to knit. The Mariposa shawl is also a very fun shawl to knit. I still have some kits in stock. The February Lady sweater is a free pattern based on EZ's Feb Baby sweater. It is a quick knit in worsted weight yarn and looks good on everyone.

It has been some time since my last posting, but my needles have been busy. Currently I have Alice Starmore's Erin from the Celtic Collection, and of course a pair of socks made from some of the newest Opal yarns. I also have the Big V Vest in progress made out of Terra a blend of bamboo and cotton that knits like a dream from SouthWest Trading. A great summer weight yarn. Stop by and see Terra and Pure made from 100% soysilk. Both in an array of beautiful colors.

Oregon Cardigan Finished!

I finally finished my Alice Starmore Oregon Cardigan and I am very happy with the finished sweater. The lacy vest is another item I have completed. It is made out of Beaded Silk Rhapsody . Come by to see the sample. I am also working on Mr GreenJeans, a pattern by Amy Swenson. The two concurrent Fair Isle Classes that are being taught by Cindy Wasner of Norsk Needlework are going well and soon I should have some pictures of the sweaters that are being knit.

I have several new yarns in stock. This sample was done with Teseo by di.ve yarns. The yarn is a chunky weight of 55% wool and 45% microfiber
The pattern is the free cropped overlay pattern from episode 104 of knitting daily tv. Very fast to knit and just the sort of wrap to throw on to go out to the store. Come by the store to see and feel it.

Current Projects

I am currently working on several projects. The brown yarn is the Lotus Blossom Tank in Madil Eden Bamboo yarn, and the pink yarn is the Lightening Lace Jacket out of Needful Yarn's Disco. I am continuing to work on my Oregon Cardigan and have one sleeve almost completed and I am halfway through my Hanne Falkenberg's Promenade Shawl.

Thursday's sit and knit has become very popular and a fun place to see what everyone is working on. August's upcoming Fair Isle class was so popular, that we had to add another class in September. If you are still interested we have 1 spot left in the class.

Knotty Wrap Top

Quick picture of the felted bag class that will be coming up in July. It is a bag done in double knit with a seashore theme (since I live on the Oregon Coast). I am finishing up the straps then it will be felted.

We are still in the midst of Oregon unshine right now--today it is lightly raining-- but when the sun does shine it is beautiful out here on the coast.

Adult Surprise Jacket Done

I finally finished Elizabeth Zimmerman's adult surprise jacket. I am currently working on a Hanne Falkenberg design called Promendade. It is a shaped shawl and done only in garter stitch. My Oregon cardi is coming along nicely. It is cut and I am currently working on 1 sleeve.

Great American Afghan

I am gearing up for the Great American Afghan Knit-a-long that will start on Sat March 8. Stop by to see the first square that we will be doing. Each square teaches different techniques and they are fun to do. The square on the left is block #3 knit from Cascade 220 yarn.

I will also be hosting a Knit Kimono Trunk show from March 31 through April 5 and a Hanne Falkenburg trunk show from April 18 through April 26.

New Year

I haven't posted for awhile because of a busy holiday season. I am still knitting away, trying to finish the Adult Surprise Jacket from Elizabeth Zimmerman. I am using a beautiful soft hand dyed worsted weight yarn called Peru from Blue Moon Fibers. It is 50% Alpaca, 30% merino and 20% silk.

I am still knitting on my Oregon Cardigan and have gotten past the armholes. As you can see it is coming along very nicely. Too many projects and not enough time to knit for the store and also for myself.

I also finished a vest for my husband that I haven't taken a picture of yet, but will post it as soon as I do.

The good news is that in the new issue of Vogue Holiday Knitting magazine, Alice Starmore has included the pattern for this out of print design. She has done it in an Autumn colorway. Everyone is having great fun creating their fair isle sweaters. Cindy is a wonderful teacher and all the sweater colors are spectacular. The students are doing either a different design or using slightly different colors. The results are stunning as you can see by the works in progress at the left.

It's been awhile sinced I last posted. I have been busy with classes and I have just started a fair isle sweater. I am doing the Alice Starmore Oregon Cardigan. I will post a picture when I have more on my needles.

I just finished Elizabeth Zimmerman's February Baby Sweater from The Knitter's Almanac. It was fun to knit and came out nice. I still have buttons to put on it. I used RY Classic Cashsoft DK yarn in Kingfisher. I may do a class on this sweater because the directions are a bit sketchy.

Einstein Coat

Here is a picture of the Einstein lightweight coat that is in Sally Melville's The Knit Stitch. It was done in Poems by Wisdom Yarn-a self striping 100% wool yarn. It is very soft to the touch and nice to knit with. Come by the store to see it. If anyone is interested in doing an Einstein coat knit-a-long come by the store and talk to me. This jacket is very easy for the beginning knitter.

Baby Surprise

Here are two versions of the Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman. The one in blue is done in Art Yarns Superwash Merino worsted weight and the Multi-color jacket is done in lightweight Socks that Rock. Very fun to do. It is knit with increases, decreases, make a couple of folds and voila, the origami of knitted baby jackets is done.

Here is a picture of Knitting Pure and Simple's top down baby cardigan. I knit this using Universal Yarns Classic Tapestry which does its own patterning. I will be teaching this class starting this April. The yarn is great to work with and it is never boring.

The move to my new space is slowly happening. I have most of the heavy stuff moved, but now I have to put all the yarn back in the bins. You can see from the pictures that most of the yarn is in bags waiting to be placed on the shelves. I haven't had much time to knit, so my Enchanted Forest sweater is waiting for me to pay it some attention.

The move to my new store space is slowly happening. I am waiting for the men to lay down the carpet. Hopefully that should happen tomorrow. I am in the process of taking down everything from the walls, and tagging it so I know where it is, but I can't start the move until the new carpet is down. I will keep you posted.

Enchanted Forest Aran from Vogue Knitting

This pattern has been on my wish list to knit for a long time. I finally sat down to swatch and knit the pattern. The original pattern was very oversized and I did not want it that large. I decided to work with a DK weight yarn (Cleckheaton) single strand and the finished dimensions according to the Cleckheaton gauge swatch would put the finished garment around 48" instead of 58". I wanted the sweater to be longer than the original so instead of 1 1/2" of rib, I knit 2 1/2" then I continued to tweak the pattern and knit the chart repeating some of the rows of the tree charts until I had the length and the look I wanted. I started out knitting the left front, but decided it was not right, so I then started on the right front and I was pleased with the result. I am now knitting up the left front.
